Need to replace a watch battery near you? At Saltzman’s Watches we’ve been changing watch batteries — and caring for every watch that comes through our door — for over 80 years. Most standard batteries are replaced while you wait, no appointment necessary.

Every battery swap includes a gasket inspection, and we can fully reseal and pressure-test the case to restore your water resistance as an additional service — something you won’t get at a mall kiosk or with a DIY kit, where it’s easy to crack a crystal or scratch the case back.

Stop into either our Cranston or Newport location to replace your watch battery on the spot. We’ll tell you the cost before we touch your watch.

Common Questions

Watch Battery Replacement — What to Know

Answers from our certified watchmakers on cost, longevity, and water resistance.

Yes. At both our Cranston and Newport, RI locations, most watch battery replacements are done while you wait, with no appointment needed. Our certified technicians fit the correct cell for your specific movement. Full resealing to restore water resistance is available as an add-on.
Pricing depends on the brand, movement, and case design. Most standard batteries are around $30. Swiss watches with screw-down case backs may carry a small additional charge, and full resealing to restore water resistance starts at $95. We quote you before any work begins.
Most standard quartz watch batteries last between 1 and 3 years, depending on functions — chronographs, backlights, and alarms draw more power. Solar and eco-drive models run indefinitely with light. Replace the battery before it fully drains and risks leaking into the movement. And because we guarantee our batteries for 3 years, if a battery we installed dies within that period we replace it at no additional charge.
Saltzman’s has two locations: our workshop at 1024 Reservoir Ave, Cranston, and our Newport location inside Hammett’s Hotel at 4 Commercial Wharf. We change watch batteries on the spot for customers from Providence, Warwick, Pawtucket, and across southern New England.
We inspect the gaskets with every battery change, but water resistance isn’t guaranteed without a full reseal. For any watch you swim or dive with, we recommend our resealing service (from $95), which replaces the gaskets and pressure-tests the case to restore its water-resistance rating.
No. Walk into either location and we’ll replace most watch batteries on the spot, no appointment necessary.
Nearly every brand — from Casio, Citizen, Seiko, and Timex to TAG Heuer, Movado, Tissot, and Omega. If it takes a battery, we have the right cell and the expertise to install it properly.

Signs It’s Time to Change Your Watch Battery

Don’t wait until it fully drains — a leaking cell can corrode the movement and turn a simple swap into a costly repair.

01

Watch Has Stopped Completely

The most obvious sign. Bring it in and we’ll swap the cell the same visit — most are done while you wait.
02

Second Hand Jumping Every 2 Seconds

Many Swiss quartz movements have a built-in low-battery indicator — the second hand skips in 2-second intervals instead of ticking smoothly.
03

Inconsistent Timekeeping

If your watch is gaining or losing time erratically, a failing battery may be providing insufficient power to the movement.
04

Dim or Partial Digital Display

Digital watches show depletion through fading or partially blank displays — often the first visible warning before they stop entirely.
