Into the woods With autumn approaching, a time when the dense forests of the Waldenburg Valley that surrounds the Oris factory in Hölstein begin to reveal their autumn hues, we’re delighted to return to our long-time collaboration with the Swiss leather company Cervo Volante through this burgundy-coloured Oris x Cervo Volante. Founded in 2017 by two female entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotech and wildlife management, Cervo Volante creates stylish footwear and accessories using sustainable deer leather, sourced here in the Swiss mountains. Every year, the Swiss authorities work carefully to manage the country’s deer population. Rather than see the skins this process generates discarded, Cervo Volante upcycles them into beautiful, sustainable products.
The leather is naturally treated in one of Switzerland’s last remaining vegetable tanneries, and natural imperfections are left untouched. It’s a story with deep roots. Which is why this special edition piece is based on the Big Crown Pointer Date, our icon. It’s been a constant in our collection since 1938, now realised as a 40 mm stainless steel piece powered by an automatic Swiss Made movement – and set on a strap made from Cervo Volante’s sustainable deer leather. As ever, the Big Crown Pointer Date is defined by its fluted bezel, its oversized crown and its signature pointer date hand. In these deep burgundy hues, it’s an autumnal delight.
